Pardon the radio silence, but we’ve all been busy….chomping, as monsters do.

I interrupt our hiatus with my profession of love for Mad Men, the drama series about advertising set in the ’60s and renowned for its attention to detail and excellent writing – if you don’t already know.

Rolling Stone magazine goes behind the scenes, giving us mere mortals a glimpse into the wonderful world of Mad Men:

I leave you with a fantastic scene, from the finale of Season 1 (I think) – guaranteed to make you sigh, if not cry. Listen to the dialogue – one does not need to follow the show to appreciate this:

“Nostalgia literally means, the pain from an old wound. It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than your memory alone.”

…with Axe.

From the bold folks at Axe comes another commercial full of sexual innuendoes:

It may be offensive to some, but I think it’s funny, does not insult the intelligence of viewers and best of all, attention grabbing – which is what you ultimately want in an ad in today’s cluttered world, right?

Write Your Future

In the spirit of the just opened World Cup, Nike has recently released the best football ad ever. Witty, entertaining and chockful of references to the business of The Beautiful Game, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Nike has outdone itself:

Directed by Academy Award-nominated director Alejandro González Iñárritu (he directed the Academy Award-nominated, Golden Globe-winning, Brad Pitt-starring international drama Babel), the ad is three minutes of alternate universe-imagining.

Especially loved Wayne Rooney’s two universes, Ronaldinho’s Samba-robics and Ronaldo in The Simpsons.

This post is part of the  series.
