Friday Afternoon – Tea and Cheesecakes

It’s Friday afternoon again, thought I’d feature this lovely little hang-out at Ann Siang Hill, ideal for a lazy Sat/Sun afternoon or just one of those afternoons off.

K-Ki, No 7 Ann Siang Hill

 I’m very bad at names. Pardon me if I have to ask your name twice. Someone told me about “K-ki” but I totally couldn’t remember who told me about this place.

 To my understanding, K-Ki, which meant cakes in Japanese.

 

No. 7 Ann Siang. This is  a stretch of road that I pass by often from my office to Ann Siang Hill. I always secretly hope that someone would take over that shop and change it into food eatery. Well, my secret wish came true. The folks from K-ki and The Little drom shop have used that premises for themselves. 

 

I love their minimalist Japanese interior design. The use of the large glass windows and the spacious interiors, coupled with the wooden furnishing gives the place a cosy and minimalist look.  I’m not an expert in architecture but I love the vibes of the place. It’s good to stop by, grab a drink and have a piece of cake. 

 

Well, the Little Drom Shop have lots of very nice knick-knacks items as well. Do check them out. 

 

K-Ki serves a variety of cakes with names like Antoinette, Café Dumo, Souffle Cheesecake. All their cakes are freshly baked by the owner themselves. Their cakes are slightly pricey ($5-$8) but they tasted pretty good. 

 

I like it that there’s a person/story to share for every piece of cake. 

My instinct tells me that the folks at K-Ki will probably need to have more tables and chairs to cater for more. : )

Best Scone On Earth

I don’t care what people say, but this has got to be the

best scone I’ve ever eaten in my entire life!

Where you say? In Bath, UK. Their hand-made scones are deviously armed with clotted cream and jam and have the ability to kill you and bring you to tastebud heaven. Resistance is futile as soon as you peel through the warm golden crust to reveal its soft fluffy centre. You’d slowly render yourself powerless as the taste of freshly baked scones rushes through your senses like a gushing river. And then you wonder, “Am I dead? Am I alive? Who cares, again! AGAIN!”

Personally, after paying 5 quid for this afternoon tea set (tea of your choice and BEST SCONE EVER), I finally realised why the English rave about scones and tea all throughout history. I am now a convert.

Japa, what?

Japadogs. What is this you might ask? Well.. it’s hot dogs, Japanese-style. What started off as a small kiosk on the corner of a busy intersection in downtown, Vancouver, has become quite a phenomenon. Although they’re running street stands at the moment, they will be opening their first official store soon! Food lovers, this is a stop you’ll just have to make. It has become one of my favorite street foods over the years, and those who have tried it will definitely understand why.

The queue might be long at times, but hey.. good food is always worth the wait, right? After all.. who could resist the tender, juicy Kurobuta pork sausage loaded with fried onions, Japanese mayo, and nori shreds? Oh, and not forgetting the teriyaki sauce.

If Steven Seagal and Rapper Icecube has made Japadogs their choice of lunch when they’re in town, I think that says quite a lot. Not forgetting the staff of these Japadog stands. Honestly, they’re some of the friendliest and down-to-earth people you’ll ever meet. So what are you waiting for? If you’re ever in Vancouver, make sure to check this food joint out, for it will definitely not disappoint!

Tickle Your Palette With The Best Turkish Food In London!

Gallipoli Bazaar London,

part of the Gallipoli chain of restaurants along Upper Street in Angel. Gallipoli Bazaar, Gallipoli Again and Gallipoli Bistro.

They opened 2 more in addition to the original because they have that many customers each night. We’re talking about endless streams of people coming from all over London to just get their Turkish fix. Endless! Even people who have made reservations were made to wait, people without were just told to try their luck at their other branches next door.

We were lucky, we beat the dinner crowd, so we managed to get a place in the Gallipoli Bazaar, just barely.

We grabbed the usual Hummous for our starter. It came with bread that was toasted to perfection. Our bread had gotten cold after a while and they replaced it with a basket of piping hot ones.

The skin crisp and the inside soft and delicate. Best bread I have ever eaten, and I have tried a lot of bread around the world, so either it really was true, or I must’ve been too hungry.

The mains were Harem Kebab – finely chopped chicken breast, laid on a bed of pitta bread, topped with yogurt and a secret recipe sauce – and Chicken Gallipoli – Grilled chicken breast marinated in cold milk, black pepper and garlic, served with rice and salad. Sounds delicious? It was! The food completely exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this place to ANYONE who’s in London.

Prices are pretty reasonable as well. They even have wicked lunch specials that are easy on the dollar and equally mind blowing.

Oh and apparently they serve shisha for dessert! Haha, how quaint! Have a good day ahead guys!

You’ll Never Guess What Food This Is….

FEAST YOUR EYES!!! For this is not what it seems…

The spaghetti, fried eggs and lasagna above are all in fact, gelato ice-cream. Don’t believe me? Take a closer look!

Chanced upon this gem somewhere along Charing Cross near the National Portrait Gallery London in a quaint little cafe called Ciao. How original. Haha, no matter, as mind boggling as it looks, the gelato is actually pretty darn good.

So If you’re ever in London and are craving for some gelato, check Cafe Ciao out.
